The Civitas Newsletter and MOTM - March 2025

Writer: Jon DaviesJon Davies

It's March already 😳 and spring is on the horizon! We've had a few days of glorious sunshine and we've even had the shutter door up. The days are getting ever so slightly longer!

February saw our annual Thursday Night Live and what a night it was. Our busiest since we started putting this on and we want to say a huge thank you to those who came to watch and for those who bravely volunteered to compete in front of their peers to kick start the Team Series. What a show you all put on 👊 .

We are now 2 weeks into this years Open and year on year the atmosphere improves and it's great to see all of us getting behind each other and cheering each other on. We all want to see our fellow members succeed and you could really see that on Friday as you were bellowing at your friends to help them get through what was a very tough workout! The atmosphere was amazing.

We have one more week to go! DON'T FORGET, on Friday (14th) we have a pizza night after the last class down at doubles where we can celebrate the conclusion of another CrossFit Open and another year of fitness. If you haven't pre ordered a pizza you can order down there on the night. They sell drinks also so even if you're not keen on eating we'd love as many of you as possible to pop down for a drink and a social. Everybody is welcome 🙏 . We're wrapping up the last class at 7:30pm so we'll aim to get down there for 7:45pm - ish.

Other than the open we have had people test their fitness outside of the gym with Ed and Chelsea completing the Seville marathon! Unbelievable work from both of you on what is a huge achievement!

More comps are coming up this month as we have competitors flying out to Malaga to compete in Hyrox on the 21st March. Good luck to Sharps, Bakes, Bomber and Deano! As always, we love to see the Civi's flying the flag in any fitness comp nationally and internationally.

Saturday mornings over the past couple of weeks have seen the Civitas Social Runners get together and flush out their legs after Friday Night Lights. Sometimes its nice to run with no pressure and at conversational pace. After the open we'll assess this and we may see it more regularly if people are enjoying their Saturday morning social run.

As we progress through the open and into spring/summer we will be announcing another Olympic Lifting Camp with Ben 🔥 . The last was a huge success and we've already seen big demand for another camp so the spots are going to be limited and by the sounds of it will sell out quickly. As soon as we have a start date you will know and it will be first come first served for tickets.

In April, We celebrate our anniversary. TWELVE 😳 years of CrossFit Civitas. Now we usually do some sort of charity fundraiser and we want to do the same this year. To be honest I want to do something that is really hard and requires a lot of sorting and logistics so as soon as I know more I will inform you all. We'd like as many of you involved as possible so will have scaling options etc all planned out before we officially announce anything. Keep your eyes peeled 👀 .

Merch reminder! Our latest batch of merchandise for those who pre ordered is at the gym and available to collect.

MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Gemma Jenkins

Congratulations Gemma! You've set the standard with consistency over the Winter and are reaping the rewards. An integral part of the early morning crew who always walks through the door with a smile on her face. Gemma's trusted the process and has recently completed her first rx class workout followed by first rx open workout which is a huge CrossFit milestone as many of you will know. Keep up the good work Gemma!
